The Hindi film Kashmir Files, based on the forced expulsion of the Pandit community from the Kashmir Valley, has created a ruckus at the box office. The film narrates the atrocities on Kashmiri Pandits in the Kashmir Valley in the early part of the 90s. Theater owners say that the film will not only earn more than 100 crores, but it can also enter the 200 crore club.
Theater owners say that the enthusiasm of the people towards this film does not seem to be cooling down. There is a steady increase in its earnings. Multiplex INOX Leisure has so far sold more than 450,000 tickets for the film. INOX Leisure says that its cinema houses are witnessing very high occupancy rates.
INOX Leisure has reported that 85 percent of the seats in its cinema halls were filled for the whole day on Sunday. This happens sometimes. Earlier this situation was seen during Bahubali 2.
On the first day of its release i.e. Friday, the film earned Rs 3.5 crore. Till Saturday, the business of this film has exceeded 8 crores while on Sunday i.e. 1 day it has earned Rs 15 crores. The earnings of this film are doubling almost every day. In general, during the business days of the week, cinema halls are less crowded. People often come to see the film on Saturday and Sunday, but for this film, Monday also looked like Sunday. According to initial estimates, on the fourth day of its release i.e. till March 16, the film’s earnings can reach around Rs 16 crore. Amit Sharma, director of Miraj Cinemas, says that the film started with a 5000 foot fall at the Pan India level. Miraj Cinemas sold 13000 tickets on the second day of release. After that on Sunday we sold 24000 tickets and despite Monday being a business day, Miraj Cinemas sold 35000 tickets for this film. All theaters of Miraj Cinemas where Kashmir Files is being shown have an occupancy rate of 70-75 per cent.
Significantly, despite being a small venture, Kashmir Files, made in a small budget of Rs 8-10 crores, is making a splash at the box office. Experts say that this film can prove to be a game changer. The director of this film is Vivek Agnihotri. The name of any big face, director or song is not associated with the film. Still, it is carrying the flag of success at the box office. Kashmir Files can enter its name as a game changer in the history of Indian film industry.
