Everyone is eagerly waiting for the coronavirus vaccine. In such a situation, the question arises that who will get the Covid-19 vaccine first. NITI Aayog member Dr. VK Paul said that 1 crore healthcare and frontline workers will be given priority in the initial phase. Dr. VK Paul is also the head of the National Expert Group on Vaccine Administration. According to the report of the Indian Express, Dr. Paul stated that the priority of the vaccine would be given on the basis of which people are at greater risk of death.
Adequate resources for vaccine delivery
Dr. Paul emphasized that adequate resources exist for the delivery of the vaccine. He told that testing of three vaccines is going on in India. Two additional vaccines have recently been shown to be the green flag for trials. However, the trial is yet to begin. But we have three vaccines for human trials. He further explained that two of these indigenous vaccines – Cadila and ICMR are from India. They are in the final stage of the second phase and the result will be available soon and then the trial of the third phase will begin.
Meanwhile, the Serum Institute of India is conducting Phase III trials for the Covid-19 vaccine of AstraZeneca and Oxford University. He said that this vaccine is in the most advanced stage of research and development. If the trials are successful, then the chances of vaccination increase.
But Dr. Paul cautioned about taking the vaccine development with carelessness. He said that despite the expectations of the vaccine soon, we have to continue to follow the rules of social distancing. Along with this, wearing masks, testing, tracking, tracing, containers and hospital preparations will also have to be continued.
