The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has directed all school principals to explain the OMR (Optical Mark Recognition) sheets to the students appearing in the Term-1 examinations of class 10 and 12. The board said, “You are aware that CBSE will for the first time use OMR for both class 10 and 12 evaluation. Therefore, it is imperative that all these students and schools are fully aware of the OMR.”
CBSE also advised schools to conduct practice sessions for the students. It said, “Before the practice session, teachers should also be well acquainted with OMR.” It listed some of the things that schools can ask students to decode the sheet.
Students should be told that their required details will be pre-filled in OMR.
The candidate has to write a question paper code in the upper right corner in the detail space. The question paper code will be written on the question paper.
– The candidate has to write – “I confirm that all the details given above are correct” in the space provided and sign the OMR.
– Only blue/black ball point pen is to be used for filling in the requested information and giving response.

– Do not use pencil at all. If it is found that the candidate has used pencil for filling the OMR, it will be treated as use of unfair means and action will be taken against the candidate as per rules.
CBSE also mentioned important information of OMR-
There is space to answer 60 questions in OMR irrespective of the total number of questions given in the question papers of any subject. Candidates will use the maximum number of circles to answer as per the total number of questions given in the question paper. It should be in serial only.
– Answers given after the maximum number of questions will not be checked. This means that if a question paper has 45 questions and the candidate answers question number 45 number against the number 46 on the OMR sheet, it will not be considered valid.
– To answer each question, 4 circles are given in a row, meaning (a), (b), (c), and (d). Fill the circle only once you know the correct answer to the question.
– After four circles are over, a box is given in the same row. Candidates have to write the correct option in this box.
– After the box, a circle is given, containing the question number.
CBSE will start Term-1 board exams for class 10 and class 12 from 30 November and 1 December. For the first time due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the board is conducting the examination in two phases.
