The Centre on Wednesday authorised Rs 5,911 crore for the Rashtriya Gram Swaraj Abhiyan (RGSA) which is able to give attention to empowering elected representatives of panchayati raj establishments for management roles and assist 2.78 lakh rural native our bodies obtain the sustainable growth targets.
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) at a gathering chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi authorised the continuation of the revamped RGSA from April 1, 2022 to March 31, 2026 to develop governance capabilities of panchayati raj establishments (PRIs).
Under the revamped RGSA, the main focus will shift in the direction of “capacitating” the elected representatives of PRIs for management roles to develop an efficient third tier of presidency.
The initiative is predicted to allow them to ship on localization of SDGs (sustainable growth targets) for 9 themes, – poverty free and enhanced livelihood in villages; wholesome village, child-friendly village, water ample village; clear and inexperienced village; self-sufficient infrastructure in village, socially secured village; village with good governance; and engendered growth in village.
“The revamped RGSA will help improve Panchayati Raj Institutions and ensure development in villages. It will help bridge the gap between the rural and urban areas and strengthen Panchayati Raj Institutions across the country,” I&B Minister Anurag Thakur stated.
Of the full monetary outlay of Rs 5,911 crore, the central share might be Rs 3,700 crore with states offering the stability Rs 2,211 crore, he stated. The scheme can even converge capability constructing initiatives of different ministries/ departments for attainment of SDGs, an official assertion stated.

The RGSA, a centrally sponsored scheme, was first authorised by the Union Cabinet in 2018 for implementation from 2018-19 to 2021-22. The most important central elements of the scheme included incentiviasation of panchayats and mission mode venture on e-Panchayat together with different actions at central stage.
