Mumbai: The stock markets were bullish for the second consecutive day and the BSE Sensex closed with a gain of 612 points on Wednesday. Markets ended in gains with gains in index heavyweights Reliance Industries, ICICI Bank and L&T amid a positive trend in global markets.
The 30-share Sensex closed at 56,930.56, up 611.55 points, or 1.09 per cent. Similarly, the Nifty of the National Stock Exchange closed at 16,955.45, up 184.60 points, or 1.10 per cent. Bajaj Finance was the top gainer with the Sensex gainer nearly three per cent. Apart from this, Bharti Airtel, Sun Pharma, Reliance Industries and SBI also rose.
On the other hand, shares of Wipro, ITC and Nestle India remained in decline. Vinod Nair, Head of Research, Geojit Financial Services, said, “The domestic market remained bullish with a positive trend in global markets. There was a massive upsurge. The stocks of mid and small companies outperformed. Due to the fall in the share price, the investors got a good opportunity to buy.
In other Asian markets, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng, Japan’s Nikkei and South Korea’s Kospi were up while the Shanghai Composite Index ended in losses. In the major markets of Europe, there was a bullish trend in the afternoon trading. Meanwhile, international oil benchmark Brent crude rose 0.38 per cent to $74.24 per barrel.(agency)
