India Coal Import: The country’s coal imports in April increased by 30.3% to 22.22 million tonnes. Imports have increased due to supply concerns and storage of coal before monsoon. This information has been given in the provisional data of mjunction services. In April last year, India’s coal import stood at 17 million tonnes.
mjunction services said, “India’s coal and coke imports from major and non-major ports in April, 2021 grew by 30.3 per cent from the same month last year. Imports in April, 2021 stood at 22.22 million tonnes, as against 17.70 million tonnes in the same month last year.” Mjunction Services Ltd. Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Vinay Verma said, “Coal imports have increased in the month under review amid pre-monsoon storage demand and supply concerns. In recent times, due to supply disruptions, coal prices have increased in global markets.
mjunction is a joint venture between Tata Steel and SAIL. It is a B2B e-commerce company that also publishes research reports on coal. The share of non-coking coal in total imports stood at 153 million tonnes in April, as against 1220 million tonnes in the same month last year. At the same time, the import of coking coal increased to 47.4 lakh tonnes, which was 32.3 lakh tonnes in April 2020. The total coal and coke imports in the financial year 2020-21 stood at 215.9 million tonnes, which is 12.6% less than 2471 million tonnes in 2019-20.
