Seven companies have filed 21 bids for retail sale of CNG to vehicles and LPG to households through pipelines in some districts of five states, including Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal. This information has been given by the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB). PNGRB has offered five Geographical Areas (GAs) in more than 27 districts of five states in the 11A City Gas Distribution Bid Round. The bids for these five GAs were received on 6 April and more than one bid has been received in each locality.
However, the oil and gas regulator PNGRB did not disclose the names of the bidders. Earlier this year in January 2022 in gas bidding, Adani Total Gas got gas rights for 14 GAs while Hyderabad-based Megha Engineering & Infra got 13 and Indian Oil got 8 GA gas rights.

Bidding for sale in these areas
In the 11A bid round, the five states where bidding is going on in five GAs, one GA of Uttar Pradesh includes Lakhimpur Kheri, Sitapur, Siddharthnagar and Maharajganj districts. Banka and Dumka of Bihar and Godda and Sahibganj districts of Jharkhand are in second GA. The third geographical area (GA) is Birbhum, Murshidabad, Malda and Dakshin Dinajpur districts of West Bengal. In the fourth GA, Koriya, Surajpur, Balrampur and Surguja districts of Chhattisgarh have been kept, while in the fifth GA, Chhattisgarh’s Kondagaon, Bastar, Sukma, Narayanpur, Bijapur and Dantewada have been kept. One more GA has been included in the bidding and its bidding will take place on May 10. Puducherry’s Yanam has been placed in the sixth GA.

98 percent will be able to use natural gas
After the completion of the auction process under the bidding round, about 88 percent of the country will be authorized for the development of CGD (City Gas Distribution) network. CGD means the delivery of natural gas through a network of pipelines to customers in the domestic, commercial or industrial and transport sectors. After the completion of the current auction process, about 98 percent of the people of the country will get access to natural gas.
