Toyota and Suzuki are undergoing global partnerships, which also remain intact with Maruti Suzuki and Toyota Kirloskar Motor.
Toyota Electric Car (PS- Gaadiwale)
Maruti Suzuki has been testing the Wagon-R EV for the past few years, but the manufacturer has not given any information about the vehicle’s launch timeline. In contrast, the Indo-Japanese manufacturer has stated many times that an electric vehicle would be impractical due to the higher price of EVs and lower sales volumes than traditional IC-engine vehicles. However, some new development seems to be happening and we can see the Wagon-R EV coming to the Indian market soon.
Recently, a testing model of the electric hatchback was seen during testing without any cover. Some pictures showing the exterior design of the testing model vehicle have also surfaced on the internet. Although the vehicle is similar to the regular Wagon-R in terms of overall style, what is different in it is the new bumpers, different side profiles, a completely new front fascia and underbody can also be seen. The Wagon R EV gets LED lighting on the outside, with a sharp-looking split headlamp design at the front. However, the most interesting thing to note here is the presence of the Toyota badge on the car!
The alloy wheels have the same design as the Ignis but have a Toyota badge at the center. Let us know that the global partnership of Toyota and Suzuki is going on, which also extends to Maruti Suzuki and Toyota Kirloskar Motor. For this, Maruti vehicles (such as Glanza and Urban Cruiser) have been rebadged in the Indian market under the brand.
A Toyota-branded EV means a lot. At the same time, Toyota has a premium brand image in India, so a special product name will have better popularity. Toyota said, Maruti can also offer this vehicle later under its own brand.
It will be interesting to see when the Wagon-R EV finally goes on sale with the Toyota badge and a new name. This upcoming Toyota Electric hatchback is likely to be launched later this year or early next year, with an initial price of around 9.5 lakh rupees (ex-showroom). It is also believed that it will get a potential range of more than 120 km on a single charge.
