These days, the prices of petrol and diesel have increased significantly. Prices are expected to increase further in the coming time. In such a situation, electric vehicles are being seen as an alternative. Although electric vehicles are costlier than normal petrol-diesel vehicles, they are considered economical in the long term.
Apart from this, electric vehicles have been said to be better according to the pollution. Road and Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari has emphasized on the use of electric vehicles. At the same time, the government has notified the National Electric Mobility Mission Plan 2020. In this, emphasis has been laid on enhancing national energy security, reducing adverse environmental effects from road vehicles and increasing domestic manufacturing capacity for EVs. But now it comes to us, is the use of electric vehicle a better option for us?
Obviously, rechargeable batteries are used in electric vehicles. To charge them, electricity is being supplied from coal-fired power stations. Most powerstations in India produce electricity from coal. In this case, the amount of carbon-dioxide released by the use of electric cars is almost double. Consequently, until the development of battery development technology accelerates, switching vehicles for such renewable energy will not be beneficial at all.
Pollution is more than petrol and diesel
If you understand a little bit better, even if you do not see smoke coming out of the electric cars, it can be seen in abundance in the factories that give it power. These factories excavate and clean minerals like lithium, graphite, manganese and cobalt to make batteries. Car parts are also made in factories. Coal-fired powerstations cause a lot of pollution while their electric battery vehicles are seen running on the roads without smoke and we assume that this does not cause pollution.

Powerstation must be updated before EV
We think switching to electric vehicle is a very good initiative, but any country should switch the fuel of powerstation before switching to electric vehicle. Powerstations need to be run from renewable energy sources to prevent pollution. Until this will not be implemented, the use of electric vehicle is not going to make any difference except to increase the burden on your pocket.
Battery stores being used in electric vehicles are limited
As of now, lithium-ion batteries are used in all electric devices. There are limited lithium reserves worldwide. Two thirds of Lithium is found in Chile, Argentina and Bolivia. At the same time it is also very difficult to remove it. It takes 20 lakh liters of water and a lot of electricity to extract one tonne of lithium. Now you can understand to what extent both the cost and the balance of environment can deteriorate for the lithium batteries being used in electric vehicles.
