New Delhi: MG Motor India sold over 37,000 units in the country from January to November this year, which is a lot higher than last year. The company had sold around 24,000-unit Hui in 2020. Recognizing the challenges like world-wide semiconductor shortage and acknowledging the increased demand for passenger vehicles, MG Motor is preparing for what may happen in the coming year i.e. 2022.
Apart from the largely positive response to other models in the portfolio like MG Motor Hector and Gloster, the company has also introduced the ZS EV. Which was launched in early 2020. At the same time, now the company is planning for Affordable Electric Vehicles. Rajeev Chaba, President and MD, MG Motor India, says, “In our endeavor to reach out to a larger consumer base in the country, we will introduce another EV in the country, which will be encouraged by the government’s clarity on its EV roadmap.”

However, Chaba is aware that despite signs of strong demand for passenger vehicles in 2022, challenges may arise.” Today, there is an increase in the demand for domestic vehicles, but it may be affected due to the world-wide semiconductor shortage. The situation will remain somewhat similar in 2022, which may have some unpredicted factors like – COVID-19, world-wide semiconductor shortage, freight cost along with additional costs.”
MG Motor says that all efforts are being made to increase the capacity of the plant to reduce the waiting period of new vehicles. This is a task for which almost every other major auto player in India and around the world is constantly striving due to the challenges but the possible spread of omicron can affect the world again, in such a situation everyone is adopting a positive approach. .
