The government is spending seven lakh crore rupees on the construction of Green Express Highways through the latest technology. Giving this information, Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari said on Wednesday that this will make transportation ‘smart’ and at the same time will help in reducing the level of pollution.
Addressing the digitally organized program of the PHD Chamber of Commerce, Gadkari said that out of these, the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway worth Rs 1 lakh crore will be completed in a year. At the same time, the Delhi-Meerut Expressway will be inaugurated in a month or two. Addressing the National Road and Highway Summit ‘Emphasis on Green Structure’, Gadkari said, “We are spending seven lakh crore rupees on the construction of green highways.” This will reduce air pollution, ease traffic and reduce logistics and transportation costs.
He said that these highways are being constructed through state-of-the-art technology and engineering. With this, traffic can be made ‘intelligent’ and at the same time attention can also be given to environmental protection.
The Transport Minister said that the Prime Minister has set a target of investing 111 lakh crore rupees under the National Infrastructure Pipeline and the government is trying to ‘develop without harming the environment’ by adopting a green approach. Nitin Gadkari said that out of the 22 green highway corridors, the time traveling by car between Delhi and Mumbai Expressway between the two metros would be reduced to 12 hours. Now it takes 40 hours.
He said that 60 percent work of this 1,300 km project has been completed. We are trying to complete the remaining work in one year. He said that under the first phase of the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway project, there will be eight lanes. In the second phase, their number will be 12. Under this, a separate electric highway lane will also be built. He said that electric trucks will also be available within a year.
Nitin Gadkari said that the work of the Delhi-Amritsar-Katra project will start in two to three months. Apart from this, Pipeline also has a Delhi-Faridabad-Sohna Express Highway worth Rs 4,063 crore and Ahmedabad-Dholera Highway Project worth Rs 4,000 crore.
