Blockchain-based Web 3 is being touted as the next era of the Internet. Cryptocurrencies and non-fungible tokens (NFTs) may have a major stake in this. As reported by CoinTelegraph, Meta plans to bring new products and services on blockchain technology that work for the Web 3 industry. The company is expected to launch new social networking platforms, computer software, e-commerce services, telecom services for digital asset holders as well as offer meta-related advertising platforms. Apart from this, preparations are also being made for entertainment and digital publishing services supporting Virtual Reality (VR).
Meta also wants to develop software for e-wallets. However, the company has not yet made any announcement regarding its trademark applications. Approval for these may take a long time for Meta as the US Patent and Trademark Office takes about 10 months to review an application. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said last month that NFT-related features will soon be available on Instagram. He had told that Instagram users can get the facility to create their NFTs on the app in the next few months.
Global financial services company American Express is also preparing to enter the metaverse and NFT segments. For this the company has applied for seven trademarks. The application includes the American Express logo indicating that it may also be rendered virtual. This is American Express’s move to explore possibilities in Web 3. In recent times, some of the biggest companies in the international finance industry have planned to venture into Web 3. These include Visa, JP Morgan and MasterCard. According to an estimate, by 2024 the market of Metaverse could reach around $800 billion.
