With the deal, Osaka is joined by legendary footballer Tom Brady, baseball player Shohei Ohtani and NBA affiliate Stephen Curry, who is already a brand ambassador for FTX. Osaka said, “We know that there is a very small number of women in the crypto segment. Cryptocurrencies were created with the vision of being accessible to all.” The long-term partnership between Osaka and FTX also includes a donation from the exchange to the Osaka-based charitable organization Play Academy. The goal of this organization is to bring a change in the lives of girls through sports.
The exchange noted that Osaka will contribute to the creation of content related to cryptocurrencies. She will also display the FTX logo at the Miami Open, which begins March 21. Sam Bankman-Fried, CEO of FTX, said, “Our partnership with Osaka will further strengthen our goal of connecting diverse voices in the development of digital currency and Web 3. I am delighted to be working with Osaka and we are looking forward to working with the world. I want to make a positive impact.”
Osaka, who is ranked first in singles by the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA), is already associated with the crypto segment. Osaka and her sister Mari created a non-fungible token (NFT) collection last year that sold for over $600,000. Osaka has previously expressed interest in cryptocurrencies such as Dogecoin. The number of people trading in cryptocurrencies has increased over the past few years. Along with this, the business of crypto-related firms is also booming. Due to this, the emphasis on marketing including brand endorsement of these firms has also increased. Some other crypto exchanges have also partnered with celebrities for brand endorsements for marketing.
