Malik told reporters that the NCP was also advocating for talks with the Congress and unity among anti-BJP parties for the Goa Assembly polls “but so far there has been no response”. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is currently in power in both the states of Uttar Pradesh and Goa. There are elections going to be held here next year. NCP national spokesperson Malik said, “We should support the party which is fighting the elections in Uttar Pradesh with full force. It is our view that there should be no division of votes among non-BJP parties.”

The NCP leader said that his party is also discussing the same with SP (Samajwadi Party), the main opposition party of Uttar Pradesh led by Akhilesh Yadav. Malik’s party shares power with Shiv Sena and Congress in Maharashtra. Malik said senior NCP leader for Goa Praful Patel discussed building unity among like-minded parties with the neighboring state’s Congress in-charge Dinesh Gundu Rao “but so far there has been no response”.
