Russia’s opposition leader and arch-critic Alexei Navalny of Vladimir Putin is sitting on a hunger strike in prison. But his team says that the officials of the Russian jail have threatened force-feeding. After starting a hunger strike from 31 March, the weight of Navalni has been reduced by eight kilograms. Navalny is serving a sentence of more than 2.5 years in a prison outside Moscow.
Navalani’s team said in a post on Twitter, “Given the seriousness of the hunger strike, the administration is threatening to forcefully start feeding Navalani food every day.” It said that the opposition leader had a cough and fever last week. After this, he was taken to the jail of the hospital, but then he was put behind the bars of the jail. Jail officials are still not allowing Navalani to show her to the doctor.
Had tried to silence Navalni with a nerve agent
The team’s post said that the 44-year-old opposition leader currently weighs 77 kg. During the hunger strike on 31 March, he weighed 85 kg. In this way, there has been a drop of eight kilograms in weight. Let us know that Navalni was very difficult to escape after being given a nerve agent in August last year. After this, he went to Germany for his treatment. At the same time, on returning to Russia from Germany, he was arrested and sent to jail.
Due to this, hunger strike started
Alexei Navalani started a hunger strike in jail because she said that she is having pain in her back and her legs are numb. But in spite of all this, they are not being provided with better medical facilities. Navalny, one of the greatest critics of Russian President Vladimir Putin, was arrested in mid-January on his return to Russia from Germany. He was sentenced to more than 2.5 years in February in an old money embezzlement case.
Hands stop working: Navalani’s team
The defense team of the Russian opposition leader had met him since last week in jail. The team had told that their hands have also stopped working. Navalny is kept in a prison in the town of Pokrov, 100 km from the capital Moscow. Navalani’s lawyers and colleagues are demanding that she be transferred to a regular hospital. The Kremlin has said that Navalani is not entitled to any special treatment.
