An aged girl who refused to place her heating on as a consequence of “fears of high energy bills” died after affected by profound hypothermia, an inquest has heard.
Barbara Bolton, 87, ignored the pleas of her household to place the heating on at her terraced home in Bury, Greater Manchester, the listening to was advised.
Medics discovered Mrs Bolton had a physique temperature of simply 28C, in contrast with the traditional 37C.
She was found slumped at her kitchen desk unable to talk by her grandson in December 2022.

“It’s clear she was fixated on the worry of putting her heating on no matter what anyone was saying to her,” senior coroner Joanne Kearsley advised Mrs Bolton’s son Mark Bolton.
“No matter what anyone was telling her, she wasn’t going to do anything differently.”
The inquest heard that hospital notes recorded Mrs Bolton had intentionally not turned her heating on “for fear of high energy bills”.
In his assertion learn to the courtroom, Mr Bolton stated he spoke to his mom each day, and visited her usually.

He described that she had solely given up work as a Tesco pharmacy assistant on the age of 82, and medical proof offered to the courtroom stated she hardly visited a GP in her life.
He advised the listening to his mom was “old school” and added: “It was my way or no-one’s way with my mum.”
He stated he labored in mountain rescue and knew how harmful hypothermia could be.
Recording a conclusion of misadventure, the coroner stated: “She seemed like quite a remarkable woman, still working at 82.”
