A 74-year-old lady who died in a park in Exeter was attacked with a knife, police have mentioned.
Officers in Devon say they detained a 30-year-old man within the metropolis centre round 9.30pm on Saturday 18 February.
Officers have been known as at round 4pm earlier that day following studies of a lady having been critically assaulted with a knife in Ludwell Valley Park, within the Wonford space of Exeter.
Emergency companies attended however the native lady was declared useless on the scene. Her subsequent of kin have been knowledgeable.
Chief Superintendent Dan Evans mentioned: “We do not currently believe that the victim and suspect are known to each other and we are not currently seeking anyone else in connection to this murder, which is being treated as an isolated incident.”
On Saturday night, police launched a manhunt for a suspect who was seen on CCTV and he was later noticed by an off-duty police officer.
The suspect was arrested on suspicion of homicide and stays in custody.
Chief Superintendent Evans mentioned there could be “a heightened police presence in the city over the next few days”.
He added: “We are nonetheless looking out the Wonford space as a part of our investigation, we imagine we might have situated the knife believed to have been used within the assault and are retrieving this as we converse.
“Whilst we are not looking for anyone else in connection with this offence, it is vital that anyone with any information contacts us immediately.
“Whilst the sort of incident could be very uncommon, Wonford is a really shut neighborhood and I do know this loss of life will probably be felt deeply by all who reside within the space.
“My thoughts are with the family and loved ones of the victim at this tragic time. We will be supporting them over the coming days and weeks with specially trained officers.”
