Washington: The White House has said that India’s taking crude oil from Russia at a concessional rate will not be considered a violation of US sanctions. “Our message to any country is to follow the sanctions we have put in place and recommend,” White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said at a daily news conference on Tuesday. Asked about a report that India is likely to accept the Russian offer of crude at a concessional rate, Saki said, “I don’t think it would be in violation of those (sanctions).”
“But consider how you want to be recorded in history in the context of the present day,” said Saki. Support for the Russian leadership is support for an invasion that clearly has disastrous effects.” India has not supported the Russian invasion of Ukraine and has been urging all stakeholders to resolve differences through dialogue. He also did not take part in the vote to pass any UN resolution against Russia.
