The US has shot down a suspected Chinese spy balloon that had been flying over its airspace.
Television footage confirmed a small explosion, adopted by the balloon descending towards the water off the Carolina coast.
The balloon was shot down with a missile fired by an F-22 fighter plane, about six nautical miles off the coast close to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Pentagon officers mentioned.
Ships had been deployed within the water to mount the restoration operation.
US President Joe Biden mentioned he needed the balloon introduced down on Wednesday however was suggested that the most effective time for the operation can be when it was over water.
