An XL Bully has been seized and two folks have been arrested after a chihuahua pet was mauled to demise on the street, police say.
Armed police attended the incident, which happened in Skellow, a village close to Doncaster, South Yorkshire, on Friday morning.
Officers imagine the XL Bully escaped from a close-by residence earlier than attacking the pet, which was being walked on the time.
Two folks, a 22-year-old man and a 21-year-old lady, have been arrested on suspicion of proudly owning a canine dangerously uncontrolled.
In an announcement, South Yorkshire Police stated: “Today, at 10.20am, we had been known as following experiences that an XL Bully was uncontrolled on Charles Street in Skellow, attacking a chihuahua being walked.
“The XL Bully is believed to have escaped from a nearby property. The puppy was taken to the vets, where it has sadly had to be put to sleep.
“Firearms officers attended the scene. The XL Bully was seized and stays in police kennels.”
Chief Inspector Emma Cheney stated irresponsible canine possession would “not be tolerated within South Yorkshire”.
“As an owner, you are responsible for your dog’s actions, whether that be within your home or a public place,” she stated.
“If your dog causes fear or harm, it will be you, the owner, who is held accountable and, in some cases, put before the courts.
“Irresponsible canine possession is costing canine’s lives and inflicting severe damage to members of the general public and their liked pets.”

She urged canine house owners to “think ahead” over the Christmas interval when individuals are “enjoying the bank holidays with walks in parks”.
“Keep your dog under control, on a lead and if it becomes easily stressed, you may choose to walk your dog during quieter periods,” she added.
“Take the time to ensure your garden is secure and your gate locks so your dog cannot escape.”
