Flooding might strike Norfolk and Suffolk over the Christmas interval, with warnings and alerts issued over a tidal surge.
The Environment Agency mentioned on Thursday that there’s the potential for flooding within the Norfolk Broads.
Officers at the moment are monitoring tide locking – the place raised sea ranges cease rivers from draining out to the ocean, which may trigger flooding – throughout the river community.
The surge, brought on by a low-pressure system and powerful winds within the North Sea, is anticipated to carry excessive tides over the Christmas interval.
Marcus Sibley, from the native space management group on the Environment Agency, mentioned: “Please keep in mind to take excessive care on coastal paths and promenades.
“We advise people to stay away from swollen rivers and exposed coasts and urge people not to drive through flood water as just 30cm of flowing water is enough to move your car.”
In a press release, the Environment Agency predicted “some smaller impacts along the East Norfolk and Suffolk coast including at Great Yarmouth and Lowestoft in the next few days”.
