A seven-year-old boy from Taiwan died after being repeatedly hit on the floor during a Judo class. The boy, identified as Huang, was admitted to the hospital on April 21 and has been in a coma for 70 days with a severe brain haemorrhage, reports AFP news agency. Huang’s parents have decided to withdraw the life support system from him after recovering from respiratory problems.
According to prosecutors, the boy’s coach Ho not only instructed other judo students to practice their throws on Huang, but the coach himself picked up Huang more than a dozen times. The boy complained of a severe headache but the coach kept throwing him up and eventually fell unconscious, after which he was taken to Fang Yuan Hospital in Taichung City.
car accident injuries
According to Taiwan News, doctors said that the boy’s injuries were like a car accident. Due to severe bleeding, doctors performed a craniotomy and after the operation declared that Huang was in a state of ‘brain dead’. Local media, citing Huang’s family, said the boy was picked up and thrashed about 27 times.
Prosecutors said he hit the floor several times but it was not clear how many times. Taichung City Mayor Lu Xiao-yen met with the hospitalized Huang and said in a post on his Facebook page that “May your soul rest in peace in another world and the justice system will do justice to your family.”
Judo coach denies allegations
Prosecutors said in a statement that judo coach Ho was charged with physical assault earlier this month, in which the victim suffered multiple serious injuries and that children were used in the crime. The accused dismissed the allegations against him saying that it was just a simple judo exercise. Ho said that we did not use undue force and we had no idea that he would get such serious injuries.
