Scotland has paused the motion of any transgender prisoner whereas it carries out an “urgent” assessment of the principles.
It comes after jail chiefs in Scotland in current weeks authorized shifting Tiffany Scott, who stalked a 13-year-old lady whereas referred to as Andrew Burns, to an all-female jail.
Last week, Nicola Sturgeon stated that Isla Bryson, a transgender lady convicted of rape carried out whereas she was a person, is not going to be imprisoned within the all-female Cornton Vale jail in Scotland.
A Scottish Prison Service spokesperson stated: “We have commenced an urgent review of all transgender cases currently managed in our establishments.
“Our first concern is all the time, and stays, the well being, security, and wellbeing of all of the folks in our care, and that of our employees.
“We have very robust risk assessment processes, and a track record of keeping people safe, in often challenging circumstances.
“We have due to this fact paused the motion of all transgender people till the assessment has been accomplished.”
The spokesperson stated the assessment will think about “any history of violence or sexual offending against women, and associated risk, with a view to determining the most appropriate location for the individual to be accommodated”.
“Until the review is completed, any trans individuals, with a history of violence towards women, will only be admitted to the male estate, in segregation, when they first enter our care,” the spokesperson added.

Scotland’s Justice Secretary Keith Brown stated: “I understand that the issue of any trans woman being convicted of violent and sexual offences is a highly emotive subject and that the public concern is understandable.
“As the primary minister identified final week, we should not enable any suggestion to take root that trans ladies pose an inherent menace to ladies. Predatory males are the danger to ladies.
“However, as with any group in society, a small number of trans women will offend and be sent to prison.
“Therefore, I hope that the measures will provide reassurance within the ongoing means of the jail service to handle trans people and make sure the security of all prisoners.
“We must also never forget that there are victims in these cases. My thoughts remain with them.”

Mr Brown insisted the Scottish Prison Service’s present guidelines “have in no way been changed or impacted” by the current passing of the Gender Recognition Reform Bill, which he stated “in any event, is not yet in force”.

The query of all-female models
It comes after it was revealed that jail chiefs in Scotland have in current weeks authorized the transfer of Scott from a male wing to an all-female unit.
The Scottish Conservatives instructed Sky News on Saturday that they needed Ms Sturgeon to dam the transfer, following an intervention to cease one other transgender jail, Bryson, from being despatched to an all-female jail.
