A seaside city’s New Year fireworks had been cancelled on the recommendation of wildlife specialists because of the presence of a wandering walrus.
It is believed that the mammal, who has come to be often called Thor, popped up in Scarborough in North Yorkshire on Friday afternoon.
The Arctic walrus is broadly believed to be taking a break throughout a journey north.

Scarborough Borough Council cancelled the city’s New Year’s Eve fireworks show on the recommendation of British Divers Marine Life Rescue.
