KyivOn Wednesday, mobilizing against Russia, most of the countries in the United Nations demanded its exit from Ukraine. The Russian army has resumed bombing in Ukraine’s second largest city, increasing the threat to the country’s capital. Russia has also surrounded its major strategic ports. Russia says about 500 of its soldiers have been killed and some 1,600 soldiers have been injured in the military crackdown that started last week. At the same time, Ukraine did not share information about the casualties of its army.
However, Ukraine said more than 2,000 civilians had been killed. The claims of both the countries are yet to be confirmed. The ambassadors of Ukraine and Russia will meet for the second time in Belarus on Thursday to find an appropriate solution to stop the war. However, there seems to be little chance of an agreement between the two.
The United Nations said more than 870,000 people have left Ukraine in the seven-day Russian offensive, adding to the refugee crisis in the European continent. At the same time, the head of the UN nuclear watchdog warned that the fighting posed a threat to Ukraine’s 15 nuclear reactors. Rafael Grossi of the International Atomic Energy Agency said that the war is taking place where large nuclear power facilities are established. He said that he is very concerned about it.

“When there’s a conflict going on, there’s definitely an increased risk of attack or even accidental damage,” Grossi said. Russia has captured the already closed Chernobyl nuclear plant. The world’s deadliest nuclear accident occurred at this nuclear plant in April 1986, when a nuclear reactor exploded following an explosion of radioactive radiation.
Russian forces on Wednesday laid siege to two strategic ports in Ukraine and began bombing the country’s second-largest city, while a huge armored base was also seen standing outside Kyiv. In New York, the 193-member UN General Assembly voted to call on Russia to halt its offensive and immediately withdraw all its troops.
World powers and small island states also condemned Russia. 141 votes were cast in favor of this proposal. Five countries voted against it, while 35 countries did not participate. General Assembly resolutions are not legally binding, but reflect the opinion of the world.
