Mikhail Popov, deputy secretary of Russia’s Security Council, has said that if British ships are seen near Crimea, its sailors will be attacked.
A British ship near Crimea
Britain-Russia Tensions are increasing continuously between Britain and Russia. A senior Russian security official warned Britain on Wednesday that its sailors would be injured if British warships appeared near Crimea. This warning to Britain has been given by Mikhail Popov, Deputy Secretary of the Security Council of Russia. In June, the British warship HMS Defender reached near Crimea. Russia had directly warned Britain about this.
However, London maintains that it has the freedom of internationally recognized navigation rules in Ukrainian territorial waters near Crimea. Russia annexed Crimea from Ukraine in 2014. Russia said that the water around it now comes under Moscow’s control. But most countries continue to recognize the peninsula as Ukrainian territory. Russia registered its protest on the arrival of a British warship near Crimea. Even the Russian Coast Guard ship fired a warning and the British ambassador was summoned to explain the matter.
Boris Johnson and Dominic Robb criticized
Mikhail Popov said in an interview to the state’s Rossiyskaya Gazeta newspaper that Britain’s behavior and its subsequent reaction to the incident in Crimea were quite surprising. He criticized the advice of British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and Foreign Minister Dominic Raab, in which both leaders said such an incident could be repeated. Earlier, Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Rybakov had also given a similar warning to Britain.
Seeing the potential of the Russian army, there is no point in provocative action
Popov said, “regardless of the state loyalty of violators in our waters, Russia will take stern action in the future for such acts.” We suggest that our adversaries think seriously about whether there is any point in taking such actions given the capability of the Russian Armed Forces. He said that the members of the British government are not present on the ships and war fleets through which provocative action is being taken. And in this context I want to ask Boris Johnson and Dominic Robb a question, what would they say to the families of British sailors who would be injured in retaliation here?
