The English Football League (EFL) has given Reading’s proprietor an ultimatum – both to “fund the club adequately” or “make immediate arrangements to sell”, days after protests spilled on to the pitch.
It stated proprietor Dai Yongge was “no longer in a position – or does not have the motivation” to assist the membership financially.
Dai has been fined an additional £50,000 by the league for failing to fund a deposit account to cowl the salaries of gamers and employees, taking the whole penalty to £80,000.
Reading are lingering fourth from backside in League One, following EFL-imposed sanctions, as many followers need the Chinese businessman to promote the membership.
He is blamed by many supporters for the membership’s issues, together with wages not being paid and a winding-up order being served in October over unpaid taxes.
The EFL stated Reading’s employees “have no reassurance” of being paid, and this “demonstrates a clear disregard for his obligations as a director” of the membership.
The workforce’s match towards Port Vale was deserted on Saturday after round 1,000 residence followers protesting towards Dai invaded the pitch of Reading’s Select Car Leasing Stadium.
Sell Before we Dai, a fan-led protest group, described it as a “dark day for Reading Football Club”, including the demonstration proved “Reading fans will not be ignored and will fight to the bitter end for our club”.
The EFL stated the scenes had been “unfortunate” including that “entering the field of play is a criminal offence”.
