The Queen is about to step in for King Charles on the annual Royal Maundy Service at Worcester Cathedral.

On Thursday 28 March – Maundy Thursday – the Queen will hand out the standard Royal Maundy items, together with the ceremonial cash given to 75 males and 75 ladies from across the nation.
The Royal Maundy Service is a notable fixture on the royal calendar, and people receiving the specifically minted cash are recognised for his or her group service.
The custom runs again to not less than the 4th century, with the primary report of a monarch participating in 1213.
The variety of women and men participating is equal to the monarch’s age and, in recent times, the service has travelled from cathedral to cathedral.
Last 12 months, the King and Queen attended the ceremony at York Minster.
Lord High Almoner Bishop John will accompany the Queen as she presents the items.
He mentioned: “It is an honour to be able to welcome HM The Queen to Worcester. This is an immensely special service and I know it will mean a huge amount to those who have been chosen to receive the coins, all of whom will have given years of service to their local communities.”
