12-year-old Selena Khawaja, popularly known as ‘Mountain Princess’ in Pakistan, is about to climb Broad Peak. Selena Khawaja will climb this 8,047 meter high mountain with her father Yusuf Khawaja. Broad Peak is the 12th highest peak in the world located on the border of Pakistan and China. It is considered one of the toughest peaks.
In the year 2019, Shehroze Kashif became the youngest Pakistani to reach the height of this peak. At the same time, he was also the youngest mountaineer to conquer this peak at the age of 17. Selena plans to climb to the top this year and is five years younger than Shehrooz Kashif. Selena started climbing mountains at the age of only six. She grew up in Abbottabad. His father encouraged him to climb mountains and helped him reach his potential.
Plan to climb Mount Everest next year
If Selena and her father successfully climb this mountain, Selena will be the youngest climber to have climbed the 8000 meter mountain. By doing this she will also set a new world record. When Selena was just 10 years old, she climbed many peaks since then. The highest peak in this was Spantik Peak, which has an altitude of 7,027. It is present in Shigar district of Pakistan. Selena has further planned to climb Mount Everest. Her father says that money is the only obstacle for the 12-year-old girl.
Selena is under the care of famous climber Vanessa O’Brien
Selena has gotten a lot from very few sponsors. In 2020 she met Vanessa O’Brien, a world-renowned explorer and mountaineer, who took Selena under her care as a mentor. If Selena is successful in climbing Mount Everest, she will be the youngest climber to climb this peak. At present, this record is with Mulvah Poorna, a resident of Romero, America, who climbed the mountain at the age of 13 years and 11 months.
