Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba paid €100,000 (£85,000) to a bunch that was making an attempt to extort him for tens of millions, French officers have stated.
Prosecutors in France are investigating allegations that Pogba, who received the 2018 World Cup with France, was the goal of extortion by an organised group, that included his brother, Mathias, and childhood pals.
They allegedly demanded €13m (£11m) from the midfielder, who rejoined Juventus in the summertime switch window, and repeatedly intimidated him, claiming he didn’t assist them after he turned a world footballer.
An official near the investigation instructed the Associated Press on Tuesday that Pogba instructed investigators he had already paid €100,000 to the group.
According to stories in France, the midfielder made the fee in April after he was threatened by masked, armed males in a Paris flat in March whereas he was in France for worldwide video games.

In response, Paul Pogba’s lawyer launched a press release saying his brother’s claims have been “in addition to threats and extortion attempts by an organised gang”.
The Paris prosecutor’s workplace stated on Monday it had opened an investigation this month into tried extortion.
