A small passenger aircraft has crashed into Lake Victoria because it was coming in to land at an airport in Tanzania.
Authorities stated 26 of the 43 individuals on board the Precision Air flight from the coastal metropolis of Dar es Salaam had been rescued and brought to hospital.
The plane was travelling from Dar es Salaam to Bukoba airport when the accident occurred.
“We have managed to save quite a number of people,” Kagera province police commander William Mwampaghale instructed journalists.
“When the aircraft was about 100 metres (328ft) midair, it encountered problems and bad weather. It was raining and the plane plunged into the water. Everything is under control,” he stated.
The aircraft “fell in Lake Victoria this morning due to storms and heavy rains”, based on the Tanzania Broadcasting Corporation.
Video footage and pictures that circulated on social media confirmed the aircraft nearly absolutely submerged, with solely its inexperienced and brown-coloured tail seen above the water line of Lake Victoria, Africa’s largest lake.
A baby was among the many 39 passengers on board the flight, the airline stated.
President Samia Suluhu Hassan expressed her condolences to all these affected by the incident and known as for calm whereas the rescue operation continues.
