He said that 40,000 to 50,000 unknown people have entered the country in the last 70 years and there is no record about where they are (Refugees From Afghanistan in Pakistan). The minister said foreigners residing in Pakistan would be issued special ‘Other Country Cards’ to open bank accounts, start businesses, obtain SIM cards and help them in travel and other legal activities.
Why is this decision important?
Ahmed said the decision to register all foreigners was important in view of the changing security situation in Afghanistan. The US and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) have almost completed the withdrawal of their forces from the war-torn country, raising the risk of a strengthening of the Taliban and local militants (Afghan Refugees in Pakistan). Officials expect a large number of people to come to Pakistan from Afghanistan in the coming years.

Ahmed said that all visa applications have been made available online and visas have been issued within 30 days. “Various security agencies review online applications and if they do not respond within 30 days, we issue visas,” he said. There are already a large number of Afghan refugees settled in Pakistan. Now he fears that millions of refugees may once again come to Pakistan. Due to which he is taking decisions like registering.
