Several of India’s prime wrestlers have been detained by police after protests in opposition to a federation chief intensified over sexual harassment allegations.
Olympic medallists Bajrang Punia and Sakshi Malik are stated to be amongst these police held at this time.
Protesting wrestlers in India initially demanded motion in opposition to the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, in January.
Mr Singh has denied allegations of sexually harassing a number of feminine athletes.
He can be a member of parliament for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ruling social gathering however was stripped of administrative powers following the preliminary protests.
However, the wrestlers resumed their protest on 23 April and have since been tenting close to the brand new parliament constructing demanding Singh’s resignation and arrest.
Local police say officers have been compelled to take motion by some behaviour on the protest.
“They broke the barricades and didn’t follow police directions,” senior Delhi Police officer Dependra Pathak advised native media.
“They broke the law, and that’s why they were detained.”

Malik, who gained bronze on the 2016 Rio Olympics within the girls’s 58kg freestyle, shared photographs and movies of the wrestlers being dragged away by police.
“This is how our champions are being treated. The world is watching us,” she tweeted.
Punia can be an Olympic medallist, who gained a bronze at Tokyo 2020.
