A nurse who intends to vote in favour of nationwide strikes has stated each shift is “carnage” due to a scarcity of workers and underfunding.

The UK authorities has proposed a median 4.75% pay improve for 2022/2023 for nurses in England and Wales. In Scotland, the proposed rise is 5%.
The Department of Health and Social Care says this represents a “pay rise of at least £1,400 this year, as recommended by the independent NHS Pay Review Body”.
It has requested the union to “carefully consider the potential impacts on patients”.

But the Royal College of Nursing says that nurses’ wages in actual phrases have declined over the previous decade and that has led to a “significant impact on the workforce” that has “compromised” care.
The union is looking on the federal government for a pay rise which is 5% above the RPI inflation fee of 10%.
“Nursing pay, in real terms value has declined around 6% over the last 10 years,” stated Patricia Marquis, Royal College of Nursing Director for England.
“We are seeing a significant rise in the numbers of nursing staff leaving the profession.
“It’s a really troublesome place, with care actually being compromised each day throughout most sectors.”
The union stated if the strike motion goes forward, pressing essential care won’t be affected.
Members have till early November to determine.
