Nepal New PM Sher Bahadur Deuba: India and America (India-US) have congratulated Sher Bahadur Deuba on being appointed as the Prime Minister of Nepal. Nepalese Congress president and senior leader Deuba, 75, on Tuesday became Nepal’s prime minister for a record fifth time on Tuesday following the intervention of the Supreme Court. The top court on Monday overturned troubled Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s May 21 decision to dissolve the House of Representatives and ordered the appointment of Deuba as prime minister.
India’s Ambassador to Nepal Vinay Mohan Kwatra on Wednesday visited the newly-appointed Prime Minister’s residence to congratulate him (New Prime Minister of Nepal). The Indian Embassy here tweeted, sharing a picture of the meeting between Kwatra and Deuba, ‘Have the honor of meeting Deuba Sher Bahadur, best wishes and congratulations on becoming the Prime Minister of Nepal. Look forward to working with his team to deepen the multi-faceted India-Nepal partnership and people-to-people ties for shared progress and prosperity.
Deuba meets Ambassador Kwatra
Nepal’s Foreign Ministry said in a tweet that Prime Minister Deuba met Ambassador Kwatra at his residence in Budhanilkanth (Sher Bahadur Deuba and India). The ministry said the prime minister thanked the ambassador for his best wishes and greetings and “recalls the old friendly relations between the two countries”. Meanwhile, the US ambassador to Nepal, Randy Barry, also congratulated Deuba on his appointment as the new prime minister.
First became PM in 1995
Sharing a photo of his meeting with the prime minister, he tweeted on Tuesday evening, “The US Embassy looks forward to working with him at all levels, from government to every Nepalese, to advance our nearly 75-year friendship.” Sher Bahadur Deuba). Deuba has previously been Prime Minister of Nepal four times from June 2017 to February 2018, June 2004 to February 2005, from July 2001 to October 2002 and from September 1995 to March 1997.
