The report states that the JWST will not be launched until the disturbances are rectified and the Ariane 5 does not fly successfully.
NASA’s James Webb Telescope (NASA)
NASA officials say the scheduled October launch of the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) may once again be delayed. This was given in the Government Accountability Office (GAO) report released on 13 May. Although this time there is no problem with the telescope, but the problem is with the European-made Ariane 5 Rocket, which usually proves reliable.
The Ariane 5 rocket was designed to take the JWST up from Kourou in French Guiana on 31 October. According to the report, according to NASA project officials, the JWST launch date is likely to extend beyond October 2021 due to the malfunctions found in the JWST launch vehicle.
Disturbances found in the Ariane-5 fairing
The problem is with the Ariane-5 fairing, which protects its payload when the speed is high in the environment. Once the rocket reaches space, the fairing separates from the rocket as two pieces and falls down. According to GAO reports, in two recent launches, the rocket experienced disturbances during the fairing separation.
The result was that the Ariane 5 launch was postponed, while the European Space Agency and the rocket maker Arianspace are investigating the flaw. However, the good news is that any possible delay can be for only a few weeks instead of months or years.
Flight can be filled in November
The report states that JWST will not be launched until the fault is rectified and the Ariane 5 does not fly successfully. Let us know that before the October launch of JWST, there are plans for two Ariane 5 launches in June and August 2021. However, NASA has not officially announced any amendment in the current 31 October launch date of JWST.
Recently reported media reports indicate that the authorities expect that it will take about four months to prepare the JWST once the Ariane-5 is cleared for flight again. So if the June launch shows that the fairing problem has been solved, then JWST can be prepared to fly in November.
