Nagorno Karabakh Conflict 2021: Three Armenian military personnel have died in clashes on the border between Armenia and Azerbaijan. While two other personnel were injured. Two Azerbaijani army personnel were also injured in the clash (Armenia Azerbaijan Conflict). The Defense Ministries of both the former Soviet countries have given this information. The dispute between Armenia and Azerbaijan over the Nagorno-Karabakh region has been going on for decades. Both the countries have accused each other of starting the clash.

Azerbaijan alleged that Armenian forces opened fire on its posts in the Kalbazar region of the border, while the Armenian army alleged that Azerbaijani forces targeted its personnel (Nagorno Karabakh Conflict Analysis). Armenia’s Foreign Ministry issued a statement saying, ‘Azerbaijan is deliberately beginning to increase tensions.’ On the other hand, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan said, ‘The responsibility of deteriorating the situation by re-provoking actions on the border of Armenia and Azerbaijan lies entirely with the military-political leadership of Armenia.’

Tension has been building since May

It is noteworthy that tensions have been brewing on the border of the two countries since May, when Armenia accused Azerbaijan of sending military forces to its territory and opposed it. Azerbaijan, on the other hand, said that it had deployed its forces in the area which it considers its territory and which has not yet been delimited. In the wake of Wednesday’s border clashes, Azerbaijan’s foreign ministry has urged Armenia to “stop provoking military action and start negotiations on the delimitation of the two countries’ borders.”

last year’s war

Armenia’s Foreign Ministry has resolved to use all its military-political methods in accordance with international law in response to the use of force by Azerbaijan against its country’s territorial integrity (Nagorno Karabakh Conflict). Last year, Armenia and Azerbaijan fought a six-week war over the Nagorno-Karabakh region, in which more than 6,000 people died. This war ended after the mediation of Russia.
