A person who shot useless his daughter’s ex-partner and her ex-partner’s father over the custody of his grandson has been sentenced to life in jail.
Stephen Alderton, 67, who had pleaded responsible, was sentenced at Cambridge Crown Court to life in jail with a minimal time period of 25 years for the murders of father and son Gary Dunmore, 57, and Joshua Dunmore, 32, who have been shot useless in two villages six miles aside in Cambridgeshire in March.
Judge Mark Bishop described the murders as an “execution”.
He added: “You took the decision to take the law into your own hands and end the lives of two innocent men.”
Alderton, of no mounted deal with, was arrested by armed officers on a motorway hours after the capturing.
He advised police that “sometimes you have to do what you have to do even if it’s wrong in the eyes of the law”, in keeping with prosecutor Pater Gair.
“We say it’s clear that the events were triggered by an ongoing family court case between this defendant’s daughter Samantha Stephen, nee Alderton, and her former partner Joshua Dunmore,” Mr Gair added.
“This concerned a request to move a child from the jurisdiction of the court by emigrating [from the UK] to the USA.”
‘Always a plan B’
Cambridge Crown Court heard that Joshua Dunmore and Ms Stephen break up shortly after the start of their son.
In 2020, she married her present accomplice, Paul Stephen, an American nationwide, who served with the US Air Force.
When Mr Stephen was redeployed again to the US, the couple requested the courts for permission to convey the kid with them.
However, Joshua Dunmore opposed the applying.
“There was a hearing on March 27, and it would appear (the child) wouldn’t be removed from the jurisdiction,” mentioned Mr Gair.
Alderton had written in earlier textual content messages that he would “override any court decision” and that there was “always a plan B”.
‘I do not know what occurred to me’

“Josh was a devoted father and a loving uncle,” they mentioned.
“He was a wonderful son and brother and leaves behind an extensive group of family and friends. He will be deeply missed and the devastation this has caused will never heal.”
