A person has died after being attacked by a “dangerously out of control” canine in Leigh.
The 37-year-old was discovered by officers within the city in Greater Manchester with severe accidents shortly after 9.10pm on Thursday.
He was taken to hospital the place he later died within the early hours of Friday.
Greater Manchester Police stated armed officers have been deployed to attempt to management the canine and used “every available tactic to subdue” the animal earlier than it was destroyed as a result of it posed a “significant risk” to the general public.
A 24-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of being accountable for a dangerously uncontrolled canine inflicting damage leading to dying.
Detective Superintendent Simon Hurst, of GMP’s Wigan district, stated: “Firstly, I would like to extend my condolences to the loved ones of the victim of this attack. Our officers and our partners are currently supporting the victim’s loved ones at this incredibly difficult time.
“We recognise this incident will rightly trigger concern throughout the native space and we wish to reassure the general public that we explored each doable avenue to guard the local people and the animal concerned.
“We would urge members of the public to please come forward if they have any information in regard to this incident, any information you may have may be a huge help to our investigation.”
It comes after a canine assault in Edinburgh earlier this month left a person with “life-changing” facial accidents.
Last month, a five-month-old child was taken to hospital following a canine assault in Penyrheol, Caerphilly.
