A person has been arrested on suspicion of homicide after a girl died in a fireplace at a block of flats in east London on Thursday night.
Police, the hearth brigade and ambulances have been referred to as to Tollgate Road in Beckton, Newham, at 5.28pm.
Five individuals have been additionally handled on the scene and brought to hospital.
A London Ambulance Service spokesperson confirmed the fatality and stated the air ambulance, 5 ambulance crews and different workers have been a part of the response.
Local media reported the hearth broke out in a block of flats reverse a Lidl grocery store.
The supervisor of the shop, Raza Nowsin, instructed MyLondon that folks have been leaping out of the home windows to flee.
“People were running around everywhere. They had a mattress there and they were trying to jump on it but some people didn’t get to the mattress,” they stated.
Another witness instructed the location: “I witnessed a person jumping out of the second floor window as [they were] trapped, a sight I never thought I would see.”
A Metropolitan Police spokesperson stated one male had been arrested on suspicion of homicide and enquiries have been ongoing.
The mayor of Newham tweeted that she was “deeply saddened”.
“Deepest thanks to @LFBNewham fire fighters, @MPSNewham and @Ldn_Ambulance for their emergency response efforts,” stated Rokhsana Fiaz.
“@NewhamLondon officers are working closely with them to support affected residents.
“Tollgate Road E6 cordoned off in response to at the moment’s critical incident.”
