British Prime Minister Boris Johnson on Monday appealed to people to strictly follow virus prevention rules amid the official end of the COVID-19 lockdown in England. Along with this, Johnson himself has also gone into self-isolation due to coming in contact with Health Minister Sajid Javid, who was found infected with Coronavirus.
The British PM also warned the public about the delta variant of COVID being highly contagious, due to which the infection rate in the country remains high. The government has lifted the restrictions related to COVID-19 completely (Lockdown Ends in England) as the fourth and final step to end the lockdown. Instead, emphasis has been given to people to take personal decisions to avoid the crowd and to avoid COVID, including wearing masks (Mask Rule in Britain).
What appeal did the Prime Minister of Britain make to the people?
Boris Johnson said in a video message shared on Twitter, ‘We are removing restrictions on a large scale, which is an appropriate time. If we do not do this now, then we will have to open everything in the month of autumn and winter and then the virus will benefit due to cold. He said, ‘If we don’t do this now, we have to ask ourselves, when will we be able to open it? This is the right time but we have to be very careful because we have to remember that unfortunately the virus is still present around us. The cases are increasing, we can see a wider spread of the delta variant of the virus. The Prime Minister also appealed to the people to come forward and take the dose of the vaccine.
More than 48 thousand cases were reported in Britain on Sunday
There are different rules for easing the lockdown in other parts of the UK. In England where wearing a mask is a personal decision. At the same time, face masks are mandatory in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland and people are allowed to gather at homes in small numbers. On the other hand, after the lockdown was lifted, a large number of people were seen queuing outside nightclubs in England. On Sunday, 48,161 new cases of corona were reported in Britain, while 25 people died. In Britain, 88 percent of adults have received the first dose of the vaccine, while 68.3 percent of people have received both doses of the vaccine.
