Liz Truss has cancelled a scheduled interview on the BBC with only a week to go earlier than the following Conservative Party chief is introduced.
A BBC spokesperson stated: “Liz Truss has cancelled her BBC One interview with Nick Robinson which was on account of air this Tuesday night (30 August) at 7pm.
“Ms Truss’s team say she can no longer spare the time to appear on Our Next Prime Minister.
“The different candidate for the Conservative management, Rishi Sunak, was interviewed by Nick on 10 August.
“We regret that it has not been possible to do an in depth interview with both candidates despite having reached agreement to do so.”
The winner of the Conservative management race – and subsequent prime minister – can be introduced on 5 September.
The contest was triggered after Boris Johnson was ousted by his personal MPs after plenty of scandals.
Foreign secretary Ms Truss has been broadly tipped because the frontrunner for a lot of the race.
The remaining Tory management hustings will happen this Wednesday in London.
Earlier on Monday, former Conservative cupboard minister Rory Stewart stated Mr Johnson might attempt to drive his means again into workplace.
Likening Mr Johnson to former Italian premier Silvio Berlusconi and ex-US president Donald Trump who’re each plotting comebacks, Mr Stewart – who stood towards the PM for the Tory management in 2019 – advised the BBC that he was a “terrible prime minister”.
Mr Stewart additionally accused the outgoing prime minister of getting “an extraordinary ego” and stated Mr Johnson “doesn’t see the reality, which is he was a terrible prime minister and that he lost his job because of deep flaws of character”.
“I fear we are going to end up with a second [Silvio] Berlusconi or a second [Donald] Trump trying to rock back in again,” he continued.
Meanwhile, polling has recommended Conservative voters would select Mr Johnson to remain on over both candidate if that they had the possibility.
And some MPs have been speaking about “buyers’ remorse” over the social gathering driving him out of workplace due to his appointment of Chris Pincher as chief whip, regardless of allegations of inappropriate behaviour, in addition to the partygate scandal and different moral points.
