The man who shot John Lennon informed a parole board he knew it was improper to kill the Beatle – however was in search of fame and had “evil” in his coronary heart.
Mark Chapman stated he had a “selfish disregard for human life of global consequence”.
The board denied him parole for a twelfth time.
Chapman, in a transcript launched by New York officers on Monday beneath a freedom of knowledge request, stated his determination to kill Lennon was “my big answer to everything. I wasn’t going to be a nobody anymore.”
He informed the board: “I’m not going in charge the rest or anyone else for bringing me there.
“I knew what I was doing, and I knew it was evil. I knew it was wrong, but I wanted the fame so much that I was willing to give everything and take a human life.”
Chapman killed Lennon on the night time of 8 December 1980 as he and Yoko Ono had been returning to their Upper West Side condo.
Earlier that day, Lennon had signed an autograph for Chapman on a duplicate of his not too long ago launched album Double Fantasy.
Chapman, 67, informed the board: “This was evil in my heart. I wanted to be somebody and nothing was going to stop that.”
Chapman is serving a life sentence of 20 years to life at Green Haven Correctional Facility within the Hudson Valley in New York state.
