An Italian priest sought by Argentina on expenses of homicide and torture throughout its final army dictatorship shall be extradited, a lawyer has confirmed.
Reverend Franco Reverberi, 86, served as a army chaplain throughout Argentina’s 1976-1983 army dictatorship.
The priest is needed for trial in Argentina for expenses together with aiding and abetting the 1976 killing of 22-year-old Jose Guillermo Beron and conspiring with the army to torture a number of different males. The incident allegedly passed off within the city of San Rafael, close to Mendoza.
Italy’s high prison courtroom rejected his attraction and has confirmed his extradition, Arturo Salerni, who represented Argentina within the case, advised The Associated Press.
He stated the choice by Italy’s Court of Cassation confirms a earlier ruling by a Bologna attraction courtroom and is now definitive.
Italian justice minister, Carlo Nordio, now has 45 days to challenge a decree that requests the extradition of Rev Reverberi.
“The battle for truth and justice that has been conducted primarily by the families of the victims of the terrible years of the Argentine dictatorship reached another important result,” Mr Salerni stated.
“This decision affirms a universal jurisdiction on the violations of human rights.”
