Three rockets were fired at the Baghdad International Airport in Baghdad, the capital of Iraq. The Iraqi military has issued a statement informing it. The military statement said that in total eight missiles were fired, three of which fell near the airport complex. The statement did not provide any information as to whether there were any casualties in this attack. In recent times, there has been an increase in missile attacks in Iraq.
These rockets have fallen in areas where Iraqi security personnel are present. It is reported that one rocket went near the Central Prison, the other near the Counter-Terrorism Service Academy and the third went to the Headquarters of the Rapid Response Regiment. So far no organization has claimed responsibility for this attack. However, US officials have previously blamed Iran-backed militia groups for such attacks.
Balad airbase was targeted on Sunday
In recent times, US installations in Iraq have been targeted by rocket attacks. On Sunday, several rockets were fired targeting the Iraqi airbase. American soldiers are also staying at this airbase. Two Iraqi security personnel were injured in this attack. Iraqi Army commander Major General Dia Mohsen told Iraq’s official communications agency that at least two rockets exploded inside the Balad Airbase. This basement is home to American instructors. Mohsen told that two security personnel were injured in the attack, one of which is in critical condition. He said that nothing has been damaged within the base.
US Army returned to Iraq in 2014
Let me tell you that in 2011, the US Army had moved from Iraq, but in 2014 Iraq sought the help of the US Army to fight the Islamic State. After this, along with the US Army and Iraqi Army, started the fight against IS. During that time, the IS captured a large area to the north and west of Iraq. In late 2020, the Trump administration began recalling American troops. After this, the presence of American soldiers in Iraq was reduced to 2500.
