The US Embassy located in Baghdad, the capital of Iraq, was attacked by three rockets in the early hours of Thursday. These rockets fell very close to the embassy. The Iraqi army gave this information. A day before this, military bases hosting the US Army were targeted through rockets and drones (Drone and Missile Attacks). The attack was blamed on Iran-backed militias.
Journalists of the news agency AFP told that during the night the C-RAM defense system was seen to be active during the night. The Iraqi army said that the embassy was not damaged in this attack, but there was damage to the places around the embassy in Baghdad’s fortified Green Zone. In recent days, American bases in Iraq are being targeted continuously. Two days ago, a drone was seen hovering over the US embassy, which was piled into the US Army personnel.
Drone attack on Irbil airport
At the same time, late Tuesday night, the International Airport located in Iraq’s northern city of Erbil was targeted by explosive-laden drones. The American Consulate is also located some distance from here. It was also the target embassy of the attack. The Anti-Terrorist Unit of the autonomous Iraqi Kurdistan said, the attack took place at night. But there were no casualties and not much damage was done. The fire was extinguished immediately.
2500 US soldiers stationed in Iraq
Irbil Airport is also a military base for international coalition troops fighting the Islamic State. American soldiers are also stationed at this base. There are currently 2500 US troops stationed in Iraq. Earlier on Monday, an armed drone was seen over the US embassy in Baghdad, which was shot down by US security forces. A few hours before this, three rockets targeted the positions of American soldiers located in the western Iraqi desert. At the same time, bases with the presence of American troops are being attacked in Syria.
