United Nations: India called for direct contact and dialogue between the two countries to stop the hostilities between Ukraine and Russia and said that it has been and will remain in touch with these two countries. R Ravindra, India’s Permanent Deputy Representative to the United Nations, said that India has been emphasizing on respecting the United Nations Charter, international law, the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states (countries).
“India has consistently called for an immediate end to all hostilities in Ukraine. Our Prime Minister has repeatedly called for an immediate ceasefire and there is no other way out than through dialogue and diplomacy.” Speaking at the UN Security Council briefing of the President of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe and Foreign Minister of Poland Zbigniew Rau, Ravindra said that India calls for direct contact and dialogue to stop hostilities.

“India is in touch with both the Russian Federation and Ukraine and will continue to do so,” he said. We continue to insist on respecting the United Nations Charter, international law, the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the states. Expressing concern over the rising number of casualties and the humanitarian situation in Ukraine, Ravindra said that India took immediate steps to evacuate its citizens from the conflict-affected areas of Ukraine. He said, “So far about 22,500 Indians have reached home safely. We are grateful to our partners for their cooperation in this evacuation operation.”
He thanked the Foreign Minister of Poland for his cooperation in the evacuation of Indian nationals from Ukraine. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has spoken to Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky several times over the phone and called for an immediate end to the violence and concerted efforts from all sides to return to the path of diplomatic dialogue.
