Pakistan also has a similar attitude towards the freedom of the press. A report has claimed that Kim Jong Un and Imran Khan are similar in terms of curbing press freedom. This has been revealed in a report by the press watchdog organization Reporters Without Borders.
The organization has disclosed about the top leaders of 37 countries. In this, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and Hungary’s PM Viktor Orban have been described as the leader of suppressing press freedom. For the first time, women have also been included in this list. Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina and Hong Kong Administrator Carrie Lam are also included in this list.
16 countries involved in black coding
After five years, this list has been released on Monday. Earlier it came out in 2016. The organization said that 37 global leaders are named in this list, out of which 17 names have been included in it for the first time. According to the report, these leaders curbed the freedom of the press and sent journalists to jail. In the list, 19 countries are shown in ‘red color’ where the condition of ‘freedom of the press’ is bad. At the same time, 16 countries have been shown in ‘black coding’, where the condition of journalism is in a very bad condition.
Journalism banned in Pakistan
According to media reports, Turkey’s Erdogan, Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, PM Narendra Modi, Philippines’ Rodrigo Duterte, Brazil’s Jair Bolsonaro have also been included in the list. The report specifically targeted Pakistan PM Imran Khan.
According to the report, censorship has been imposed on the press after Imran Khan became the Prime Minister. The distribution of newspapers has been disrupted and threats are being made from media companies, including the withdrawal of advertisements. Not only this, the signals of TV channels are also being affected.
