Photo of Mars’ moon Phobos shared by NASA (NASA)
The American space agency NASA has shared a very interesting picture, which looks like a potato but it is not a potato. This picture is of ‘Phobos’, one of the two moons of Mars. This picture has been taken with the most powerful camera ever sent to another planet. The name of the second moon of the Red Planet is Deimos. In an Instagram post, the space agency said the image was taken by the HiRISE camera aboard its Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter spacecraft, about 6,800 km above the surface.
NASA said that Phobos is getting closer to Mars at a rate of 1.8 meters every century, which means that this planet will collide or shatter like debris in 50 million years. Phobos has no atmosphere and orbits Mars three times a day. A popular theory is that it could be an asteroid. But some scientists do not agree with this. NASA said in the post that Phobos was discovered in 1877 by American astronomer Asaph Hall. The space agency said that Phobos and Deimos in Greek mythology are the twin sons of Ares (Mars in Roman mythology).
some kind of reaction of people
Sharing the picture, NASA wrote in the caption, This picture shows a pockmarked celestial body with a large impact basin, called Stickney Crater. The pits visible on its shore may be the result of tidal forces. Many Instagram users were surprised to see the picture. One user commented that it looks like some metal. At the same time, another user wrote that this is really amazing. I’ve never seen this before. NASA always keeps sharing such pictures with its social media handles.
Temperature drops to -112 degrees on Phobos
American astronomer Asaph Hall discovered both the moons of Mars in 1877. Hall named the moons as Phobos and Deimos, the mythical sons of the Roman god Ares. Phobus means fear. The crater was named after his wife and mathematician Chloe Angeline Stickney Hall. According to NASA, there is a great variation in day and night temperatures on Phobos. It has a high temperature of -4 °C and a minimum of -112 °C.
