Bharat Biotech’s Vaccine CoVaxin
There have been allegations of corruption on the purchase of Covaccine. The Brazilian government has suspended the deal after allegations of irregularities in the agreement. Brazil had agreed to buy 20 million doses of Covaccine, the COVID-19 vaccine of Bharat Biotech. However, Bharat Biotech has denied any wrongdoing. Brazil’s Health Minister Marcelo Quiroga tweeted, ‘On the recommendation of CGUOnline, we have decided to temporarily suspend the Covaccine Agreement. As per the preliminary analysis of CGU, there are no irregularities in the agreement but due to non-compliance, the ministry has decided to withhold the agreement for further analysis.
South American countries started investigation
The Covaccine deal with Brazil was embroiled in controversy when the Attorney General of South American countries started an investigation into the deal. Quiroga said in another tweet, ‘It is worth noting that the Brazilian government did not pay a single penny for the Covaccine vaccine.’ He further said, ‘This move will not compromise the pace of the vaccination campaign against COVID 19 in Brazil, as no approval has been received from Anvisa (Brazil’s national health regulatory agency) for emergency or definitive use of the vaccination agent.’

Bharat Biotech clarified
Bharat Biotech has given its stand on this whole matter. Bharat Biotech said, ‘For governments outside India, clearly the price of Covaccine has been kept at $ 15 to 20 per dose. For Brazil, it has been fixed at $ 5 per dose. The company further said, ‘If Brazil has to buy Covaccine, then it has to follow the entire process for contract and regulatory approval, which is an eight-month long process. Till June 29, we have not received any payment from Brazil.
